Tampa Bay Watch, 100 volunteers to plant thousands of plants at Bahia Beach

Ruskin, FL – The Tampa Bay Watch and 100 community volunteers will be hard at work in Ruskin this weekend   planting over 20,000 salt marsh grass plugs to help the environment.

Their efforts are a part of  the Bahia Beach Habitat Restoration project, an ongoing initiative of TBW with a goal, reps say, of improving the habitat for native fish, invertebrates, birds and mammal species and restoring /offseting historical losses of wetlands in Tampa Bay.

Riverview, Florida -- The Florida Forest Service will be conducting a prescribed burn today, April 23 at 12560 Rhodine Road in Riverview.

Officials say the burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for ecological site management and hazardous fuels reduction.

Hilllsborough to declare April as "Water Conservation Month"

Hillsborough County, Florida-- During a regular board meeting set for Wednesday, April 17, county commissioners will declare April as "Water Conservation Month" in Hillsborough County.

According to reps, April- typically the driest month of the year- is an ideal time to pay close attention to leaky faucets, replace malfunctioning plumbing parts, consider lower shower heads and shorter shower-times, keep lawn-watering to a minimum, and more.

Tampa Bay Watch: Volunteers needed to build oyster shell bar

Tampa, Florida-- Tampa Bay Watch is looking for locals to volunteer their time this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Reps say they'll be building an oyster shell bar on the shoreline of Schultz Nature Preserve. Volunteers can expect to assist with shoveling fossilized oyster shells into mesh bags, transporting those bags via boat and placing oyster shell bags on the shoreline to create a series of oyster bars.

Hillsborough to return to one-day-a-week lawn watering

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Hillsborough officials announced Wednesday that they'll be enforcing tighter water restrictions throughout the county as of March 13 because of below normal rainfall, reduced river levels and increasing water supply concerns.

All residents will be limited to watering their lawns once a week, and officials said this rule even applies to those who are not public utilities customers.

An exception will be made for reclaimed water customers, but they are also being urged to use as little as possible.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.
