Commissioners seek applications for citizen boards and councils

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants must submit the Standards of Conduct form along with their application.

Hillsborough County seeks public feedback on its Draft Strategic Plan

Hillsborough County, Florida -- After three months of public input and five months of planning workshops, research and retreats, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners has created their draft Strategic Plan for the County.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft Strategic Plan and give their comments on the Plan through the Strategic Plan blog, via email or phone by May 14. The County Commission will take their final vote on the Plan at their regular Board meeting on May 15.

Free Baby Time event being held in Riverview

Riverview, Florida - Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their children ages 0-18 months to the Riverview Branch Library on Thursday April, 25 so they can be introduced to early literacy skills as part of a "Baby Time" program.

The children are invited to learn in a bouncy and bond-building 20-minute program. Baby Time's stories, rhymes and songs being offered are intended to encourage language development.

Ruskin, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department has scheduled a public meeting on Tuesday, April 23, to discuss a project that connects the Sun City Utilities Water System (Sun City Mobile Home Park) to Hillsborough County's water distribution system.

The mobile home community is located in Ruskin, east of U.S. Highway 41 and south of the Little Manatee River.

Affected residents are currently Hillsborough County water customers and are provided drinking water from two wells, which are showing signs of possible saltwater intrusion.

Ruskin, Florida - Adults and teens are invited to join art instructor Patsy Monk for an interesting evening learning about pattern and repetition in drawing.

Monk is teaching the zentangle course on Monday, April 15 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the SouthShore Regional Library which is located at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin.

Registration is required at either the SouthShore Regional Library Information Desk or by calling (813) 273-3652. 

The class is limited to 22 participants.

Land Development Code hearing scheduled for April 11

Tampa, Florida -- If you are concerned about zoning in Hillsborough County you will want to be at round one of the Land Development Code Text Amendment Hearing this week.

The Board of County Commissioners is holding a workshop at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in the 2nd Floor Boardroom of County Center 601 East Kennedy Blvd in Downtown Tampa.

According to the County Website Land Development Code includes zoning, site development, and subdivision regulations. The intent of the LDC is to promote and preserve public health, safety, and welfare.
